With travel blogger Julie Jones of Have Wheelchair Will Travel

For Julie Jones of Sydney, Australia, Have Wheelchair Will Travel has become not only her family's mantra, but also a resource to help others.

Julie has traveled the globe with her husband, adult son and teenage daughter. Since her son BJ, has cerebral palsy, the family is always on the lookout for accessible travel destinations and tips to make travel easier.

Safety is important when traveling with a disability, so Julie and her family started with small trips when her son was younger. "We started with local car trips before we went further afield," Julie said. "We found that traveling locally helped us understand what we needed to have a good vacation, the equipment we couldn't do without and what worked for us in regards to accommodation."

Over time, the family grew in confidence and traveled by plane to different states in Australia and to New Zealand before taking the big step in traveling to the United States (a 15-hour flight from Australia).

"Flying for that length of time was our biggest challenge," Julie said. "Our son has cerebral palsy and finds it difficult to get comfortable for such a long time. Once we arrived, we had an amazing vacation and found the US extremely easy for access."

Julie has now documented the family's experiences to destinations including Disneyland, New York and much of Australia, while gathering more accessibility tips along the way. "If we can help show people just getting a wheelchair isn't the end of fun and adventure, I am happy," Julie said. "The community we have built is important to me -- the people who follow our page and share photos and stories make me realize that they find a connection through our page."
